Job Overview: Join the We Grow Garden Crew for our six-month season to grow food for those in need, while gaining the skills and network necessary to further pursue your career and/or academic goals. Work each week outdoors in downtown Bellingham with other garden staff to grow food to donate to the Bellingham Food Bank, the Lighthouse Mission and to cook for ourselves. Each workday will be comprised of rigorous gardening, intensive workshops on skills needed to be a strong employee and on what we eat and why?

After a month of garden work, gain the opportunity to be hired as a paid intern in a position that interests you within the administration, which could include video production, social media marketing, accounting, and more.

Receive the opportunity of promotion to Garden Manager after completing one season at the We Grow Garden, which includes a pay raise and the supervision of the first-generation youth employees.

Do you have other career goals? Our staff will work closely with you to determine a strategy to reach that goal and connect you with people who can help you get there.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health and safety of the crops

  • Participate in weekly workshops

  • Arrive on-time and follow all workplace rules

  • Develop successful methods of selling produce to create income for the garden

    • Harvest, wash, and prepare crops when ready

    • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with people outside garden

  • Maintain safe work environment

Job Requirements:

  • *A person qualifies if they have at any time been involved in the foster care system, if they have experienced homelessness or been involved in the juvenile justice system.

  • Be between the ages of 16 and 21

  • Have the ability to lift up to 60lbs

  • Have the ability to be physically active and bend and stand numerous times

  • Attend rain or shine

  • Respectful treatment of all people

  • Willingness to learn!

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum commitment of three months
